Marguerita - Elvis Presley - Fun In Acapulco (Vinyl, LP, Album)

Elvis loved Mexican or Spanish-flavoured music and you can hear it in this magical song. It's a moviesong and the sound and mixing could've been better, but the King makes this a joy to listen to. There's also a version by Les Negresses Vertes that's worth looking for. Deano1 wrote on January 08, While this is not one of my personal favorites, I don't skip this song if I am playing the soundtrack LP. Gorse wrote on October 02, He obviously enjoyed doing this music much more than doing rock.

A much more satisfying enterprise than the pasty and paltry soundtrack to It Happened at the World's Fair, though, in spots, Elvis sounds just a tad disgusted. I say, in spots, because generally he does some of his best singing in his career!

To wit, a masterpiece written by the great Don Roberston, "Margarita", in which Elvis applies his art in such a way to temporarily sway his most Sun Records-oriented fans. Uptempo numbers are handled with zest with the exception of an awful film-formula song, "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" and there's plenty of "South of the Border" atmospherics; plus a surprisingly good sound mix.

I bought this Elvis film soundtrack more for nostalgic reasons rather than actual song quality as my dad used to have the original vinyl LP. The songs here compared with the ones found on the brilliant 'GI Blues' soundtrack haven't dated so well and appear weak in comparison. The only tracks that I find myself humming at times are the title track, 'Marguerita' on which Elvis shows his amazing vocal range and the brilliant bonus track 'Love Me Tonight'.
